Don't Hug Doug
Happy weekend!! We’ve got lots of bits and pieces I’d like to do but also could just curl up for a cuddle and lots of stories! I’m a hugger! Nothing beats cuddles and a storytime with the bairns for me!
We really enjoyed reading this book, Don't Hug Doug by Carrie Finison & Daniel Wiseman, about a boy called Doug who doesn’t like hugs. He likes you, the reader, just not hugs. Some people like hugs, other people don’t. The only way to find out is ask.
This quite simply is a fun, bright and cheerful book that shares messages of consent and setting boundaries. The bairns could both immediately tell me about Doug, about asking his consent to hug or not hug and to high five instead: message received. This is a great book for starting conversations and would certainly be as useful tool in nursery and school classrooms. Doug is a loveable character and we are rather charmed by his pet potbellied pig too!
Happy cuddling up with a great story, if you want to, of course!

I’m not really a hugger but BookBairn and The Wee Page Turner are exceptions.
