How can you make a laugh out loud, brightly illustrated, woodland-adventure graphic novel even more appealing to the bookbairns? Luke Seguin-Magee has the answer: Supersize (is that a real verb?) the squirrel of course!

All was quiet in the deep dark wood,

A squirrel found a nut and the nut was good.

Until…

WHAM-O KABLAM-O!

A meteor crashed out for nowhere, and now the forest is full of animals with superpowers. How’s that for a premise?!

In Supersized Squirrel and the Great Wham-O Kablam-O, our main characters, Sonny the squirrel who can now supersize himself, and Blaze the bunny who can shoot fireballs (and sometimes accidentally fart them!) are on a mission to rescue all the critters of the forest who have found themselves in some sticky situations following the blast.

When they discover a secret lair for superanimals, they hope to fit right in. But the agenda seems a bit less ‘save the critters’ and more ‘eliminate them and steal their land’. And Blaze decides that this group is not for him, he can't convince Supersize Squirrel to join him. Will Supersize Squirrel realise in time that these superanimals aren't as super as they seem?

Spoiler alert: he doesn’t. So will Blaze come to his rescue? Spoiler alert: just kidding, that really would spoil the ending!

With bright and bold graphics, hilarious facial expressions and a cast of characters that you will love (and loathe - the baddies I mean!), this is a powerful tale of friendship, super heroic feats and what it takes to become a true hero! Perfect for fans of The Investigators, Agent Moose and Bird & Squirrel.

Also I’d like it noted that I really went the extra mile for this photo: I spent all morning wandering a local woodland in search of a red squirrel but failed miserably to find one (despite seeing deer, hares and various birds) but when I took the dog for a walk five minutes from the house and spotted our little local squirrel! Fortunately I had the book in my pocket and I did actually capture a real life red squirrel peeking down from the treetops to see what the story was about!

And this little squirrel was certainly inquisitive and I think that means they give it the thumbs up! We think it's laugh out loud funny!

  1. This book looks really funny. I can see why BookBairn and the Wee Page Turner would enjoy it, although I’m not sure about some of Blaze’s bodily functions. What a great effort for the photoshoot. Well done.
